Working with AttorneysRestore communicationMost people (including lawyers) don’t enjoy conflict. And, unfortunately, when conflict arises, the natural tendency on the part of both parties is to allow communications to shut down (which is precisely the thing that will make the conflict worse, rather than better). Treat your lawyer the way you would the plumber that has sent you a bill for a repair to your home. If something in the bill seems amiss, contact the lawyer directly and discuss your concerns in simple, straightforward, matter of fact terms. The vast majority of the time the lawyer will see both sides of it and endeavor to make a reasonable adjustment to the bill. He does this for two reasons: (1) he wants you, the client, to be happier about the entire experience so that you are more inclined to hire him again (or at least give him a positive referral); and (2) he wants you, the client, to feel good about the resolution of the fee dispute so that you are more inclined to tender prompt payment regarding the amount agreed to. Working hard to resolve client concerns about a bill is just good business. Most good lawyers know that. Our principal office is in Richardson, Texas. Our clients are nationwide.
