Insist upon a written engagement letter

Once you’ve selected the right attorney for you, request a written engagement letter (if it hasn’t already been offered to you). Most good attorneys will commence legal engagements with new clients with a written engagement letter. Why? Because a good engagement letter practice ensures that potential clients are advised up front about important aspects of the relationship, and the services to be delivered, and this minimizes potential confusion and misunderstandings down the road.
